Williams chief engineer Mark Gillan believes there is still a lot to achieve – Formula 1 news
Williams chief engineer Mark Gillan has said that they have not achieved their target yet while he said that there is still a long way to go in order to gain more victories in the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Pastor Maldonado of Williams took his maiden victory in the Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming his first ever pole position. Moreover, he became the first Venezuelan driver to win a race in F1. On the other hand,
his teammate, Bruno Senna has also shown some convincing performances in the season so far.
Even though, the British team has enjoyed the success after a long time. However, Gillan believes that they cannot feel delighted until they win more races in the forthcoming season and make themselves able to join the list of the top teams.
“Things have generally become a bit more structured now, and coming to a race weekend everyone knows what they are supposed to do,” he said. “We don't deviate from the plan unless there is a good reason to do so. The whole team are working together with
very close goals – and although the last weekend was very good, there is a long way to go for the team. And until we are doing it on a regular basis, it is obviously still not acceptable.”
Besides, he said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the next race at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
He added, “For this weekend we want to get both cars home in the points.”
Williams are presently at 6th position in the constructors’ championship with 43 points and they are just two points ahead of their main rival, Sauber-Ferrari. Meanwhile, Maldonado and Senna are standing at 9th and 13th place in the drivers’ rankings.
Gillan expressed that they have been trying their best to make the significant developments and the necessary preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races with an aim to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
Over and above, Williams with their talented pair of drivers and the expert staff can be considered as one of the most competent midfield contenders in this season.
