Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan says team should not be disappointed – Formula 1
Williams chief operations engineer Mark Gillan has said that he does not see any reason for his team to feel disappointed over the lows of season’s ups and downs.
Williams have blown hot and cold air over the season, with Pastor Maldonado recording his maiden Grand Prix victory and yet failing to come up with consistent performances.
Williams have been able to score only 10 points since Maldonado’s win at Barcelona, a disappointing result for the team that looked to promise a lot after the win. The team can take some consolation from the fact that the team had good opportunities to come
up with good results but for one reason or the other, they were not able to grasp the opportunities they had.
Gillan believes that the team is taking its 2011 year in context to its 2012 performance. He said that 2011 was the worst year for the team and they have been able to turn their fortunes around in 2012.
“It has been a bit of a rollercoaster season, hasn't it?” Gillan told AUTOSPORT. “But I have to go back to where we were last year, because none of us should forget that and certainly in the team we don't.”
“We currently have ten times the points we had at the end of last year and, as a team, we know that we should be always aiming to finish in the points - which means qualifying in the top 10. There is no reason why we cannot do that,” he added.
He added that if the team is not able to finish in the top ten of the qualifying then it will be disappointing. Both the cars should be able to get into Q3, it happened in Hungary for the first time in the season. Yet the team was not able to get the results
it should have from the race but the team needs to consistently perform in the qualifiers to get improved results on the race days.
It will be interesting to see how the team fares as the season progresses after the summer break.
