Williams disappointed with Pastor Maldonado during 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they are very much disappointed with their driver Pastor Maldonado during 2012 Monaco Grand Prix held at Circuit de Monaco.
Maldonado took his maiden victory in 2012 Spanish GP after claiming his first ever pole position. Moreover, it will be interesting to mention that he became the first ever Venezuelan driver who won a race in F1.
Although he was confidently looking forward to perform well in the sixth race, however, during the final free practice session in Monte Carlo, he hit Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari due to which he had to face a ten-place grid penalty. Eventually he started
the race from the end of the grid and could not even score a single point as he was retired.
Gillan expressed that they are very much upset with the incident as Maldonado could have avoided his collision with Perez.
“I think that incident was avoidable and therefore disappointing and that penalty was therefore understandable,” he said.
In addition, he said that their car was competent enough to secure a competitive finish in the race and they could have been able to score some crucial points.
“The car was good enough for a P4 or P5 qualifying position and our race pace was also good so it’s disappointing not to have come away from this event with a decent haul of points,” he said.
On the other hand, Maldonado’s teammate, Bruno Senna also struggled during the race as he could only secure 13th place in the grid and came 10th. Nonetheless, Gillian said that they are ready to provide everything to the Brazilian driver to improve his performance
in the upcoming races.
“Bruno was very honest after qualifying admitting that he could have done better but was ultimately frustrated by Kimi who held him. We will continue to work hard with Bruno in simulator and on the track to help him maximise new tyres' performance,” he added.
Over and above, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the essential preparations in order to enhance their pace in the approaching races.
