Williams’ driver Bruno Senna has been awarded 2012 Lorenzo Bandini Trophy – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Bruno Senna has been recently awarded 2012 Lorenzo Bandini Trophy in Brisighella, Italy.
This award is being given in the memory of an Italian driver, Lorenzo Bandini who died in an accident in Monaco Grand Prix in 1967 who was leading the drivers’ championship at that time.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to note that this trophy is given to the drivers who have devotion and commitment towards the sport and has been awarded to many drivers which include, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
The British team has just made an announcement that Senna will receive the award on July 15, 2012. Meanwhile, the Brazilian driver said that he is feeling immense pleasure in receiving the award and expressed his gratitude towards the people of Brisighella.
In addition, he said that he is eagerly looking forward to the event.
“It's a great honour to receive the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy, particularly when you consider the excellent racing drivers that have been awarded it in the past,” Senna said. “I would like to thank the people of Brisighella for their kind support and generosity
as well as all of those who have helped me in my career so far. I'm very much looking forward to the prize giving ceremony next month, which promises to be a great event.”
At present, he is at 13th place in the drivers’ championship with 15 points. Besides, he is 4 points ahead of Felipe Massa of Ferrari and 6 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
He struggled with finding his pace in the season opener in which he could not pocket any points as he came 16th after setting off from 14th grid position.
Later, in the second and third race, he performed reasonably well and secured 6th and 7th place finish after starting from 13th and 14th grid position.
Over and above, he has only scored 1 point in the last four grands prix out of which he was retired in the fifth race due to his collision with Schumacher. Nonetheless, he is aiming to perform well in the forthcoming races.
