Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado eyes points in Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado has said that he wants to fight for points in the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
He secured his eighth place for the race in the qualifying round at the Monte Carlo street track. After the qualifying round, the Venezuelan admitted that he was feeling much better with his progress. However, he said he is looking for a productive run on
Sunday.
Maldonado is quite satisfied with his 8th position on the grid. He added that now he was moving in the right direction and wanted to score some points for his team.
He told the media that his car’s pace was not so good, however he was pushing to work hard in his run. The 26-year-old driver mentioned, “I love this track. Even in qualifying I was very consistent. I had very good laps. I am happy because I got 100 per
cent out of the package again. The car looks a bit better, we are okay here. Finally here we have a great opportunity to be in the points.”
Williams had quite a poor start to the season, as both the drivers Rubens Barrichello and Maldonado were unable to finish their runs among the strong rivals. However, the team kicked off to a good weekend of the Monaco Grand Prix as both drivers had a trouble-free
run in the practice sessions and during the qualifying round.
Barrichello finished his run in the 12th place on the grid and Williams are hoping for some points from their drivers in Monte Carlo.
Maldonado added, “Here is always an untypical race because anything can happen at the front or the rear of the field and safety cars are common. You need to be very concentrated. I think in the future I will be able to fight here for the victory that would
be a bit difficult this year because of the difference in the cars.”
He also mentioned that Williams need to work hard during the race. He believes that the track is quite well compared to other ones, however, he will try to do his best for the team.
