Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado feels confident improvements are working – Formula 1 news
Williams' driver Pastor Maldonado says that the improvements in the car are working and feels quite confident for the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season starting in Melbourne, Australia.
Maldonado said that in the next two days of the final test at Barcelona, he will be focusing on the longer runs during the testing.
Maldonado remained at the bottom of the timesheets at the end of the day two of the final test as he faced an issue with the car’s engine during the morning session and ultimately the focus of the team was moved to the pit stop exercise.
“The parts are still arriving here,” he said. “I think we're going to improve but the car is looking good. We need to improve a little the pace on the long runs, but we are not so far [off our target]. I think at this moment all the teams are very close
and it's difficult to predict because we don't know exactly what the other teams are testing.”
However, he is confident that the new car will soon be on track and that the improvements made in the car are working.
“I feel confident. We need to work hard, concentrate and keep pushing. The first race is always difficult and the track is difficult for setup. But it will be a long season and we will see,” said Maldonado.
Maldonado said that three teams seem to be strong contenders for the upcoming season which include Red Bull Racing, Mercedes and McLaren. Moreover, he did not reveal the plan of Williams for the season opener at Melbourne.
Furthermore, Maldonado said that the problem in the engine during the morning session was not a big issue after which the car was handed over to his teammate Bruno Senna at lunch time.
Maldonado expressed that the team need to be strong in all the aspects of the game and during the pit stop testing the team did not lose the important time.
Furthermore, he said that the day was quite boring but he was pleased that the team was making progress and working hard to prepare itself for the upcoming season.
