Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado ready for the 2011 Formula 1 season
Team Williams’ driver Pastor Maldonado recently stated that he is not feeling any pressure about the upcoming Formula 1 season which is going to be his first one in the sport.
He joined Team Williams as a replacement for the very talented Nico Hulkenberg after the 2010 Formula 1 season ended. Before that, he was crowned the GP2 champion in 2010.
Nevertheless, the young Venezuelan driver is quite confident and not feeling any pressure about the upcoming season. Pastor is going to be the first Venezuelan driver in Formula 1 after Johnny Cecotto from the 1980s.
“I don't have this kind of pressure. I do my best to understand everything, and to do the best job I can for the team. Our aim is to get the most out of the FW33. We will see what we can do at the first race but I feel ready,” he said when asked if expectations
were high.
He added that he is happy for his country as they are supporting him a lot and that is something very special for a driver. However, he claims that he joined Formula 1 to satisfy his fans and perform up to his team’s expectations.
Pastor revealed that his objective was to at least complete his debut Formula 1 race which is going to be the season opening race of the 2011 season and is taking place in Australia on 27 March.
“It is going to be an exciting moment for me. I have been racing for many years and I have waited many years to be in Formula One so sitting on the grid in Melbourne is going to be great. I am going to try to treat it like any other race though,” Maldonado
said about his F1 debut.
It is not going to be easy for him to top Nico Hulkenberg’s performance during the 2010 Formula 1 season but the young Venezuelan is confident about the upcoming season and he claims that he is not going to let his team down. Let’s see if he manages to do
that.
