Williams driver Pastor Maldonado says drivers can make the difference – Formula 1 news
Williams driver Pastor Maldonado has said that the drivers can play a crucial role in 2012 Formula 1 World Championship while he said that the teams can still make efforts to develop strategies and the cars.
“It has become like a GP2 championship,” said Maldonado. “The drivers can make the difference and the teams can still work on the strategy and the car. It's a bit boring when you see one car winning. The season is more competitive.”
Maldonado took his maiden victory in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix after setting off from the pole position. Moreover, he became the first ever Venezuelan driver to win a race in F1.
He is currently standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points. Furthermore, he is 7 points ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari and 6 points behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Even though, there have been a lot of criticism on the quality of new generation of Pirelli tyres by the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes AMG and the owner of Red Bull Racing, Dietrich Mateschitz.
However, Maldonado said that tyre management is the part of the sport and it is same for each and every contender while he said that all the drivers have to follow the same conditions in the races.
“The tyre degradation is quite big and it is true that you need to manage them. This is part of the race and it's the same for everybody. There are no easy races. We need to adapt to the tyres, to the rules, to the car,” he said.
In addition, he said that they have been able to develop a sound understanding about the tyre management which has given them a competitive edge over their rivals in the season so far.
The British team is presently at 6th position in the constructors’ rankings with 43 points. It will be important to mention that they have emerged as one of the most competitive midfield teams in this season.
Over and above, they are trying their best to make the significant advancements and the substantial preparations in order to enhance the pace of their car for the forthcoming races.
