Williams driver Rubens Barrichello denies rumours regarding his exit from Formula 1
Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello has denied rumours that he will be leaving Formula 1 and his team after the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“I saw some news saying that I wanted to stop racing. Makes me laugh really. All I want is to carry on racing. Working double hard to have a good car for next year. Problems do exist and we are here to solve them. Williams need me as much as I need them,”
he said.
Barrichello made a statement earlier on according to which it was quite clear that he was unhappy and that he did not want to continue with the team if they keep running like this but now, it seems that he has changed his mind.
“I don't know if I will continue next year in these conditions,” Barrichello told the media earlier on.
The team has quite clearly not been performing up to its full potential as they are currently the least ‘points scoring’ team of the sport as they have just secured 4 points in 11 races. Williams are currently in 9th place in the constructors’
standings ahead of the back-running teams which are yet to score any points in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team decided to sign Pastor Maldonado as a replacement for Nico Hulkenberg since he was bringing a major sponsor along with him as a part of his deal with the team. Since they are not facing any ‘major’ financial problems, it is quite disappointing to
see a championship winning team like Williams giving such a disastrous performance.
They were looking pretty good during the pre-season testing period but since then, it seems that a lot has changed and most of the teams have improved their respective performances massively.
Now, Williams are also going through some major administrative changes and until the 2012 Formula 1 season, the management of the team has vowed to deliver positive results and hopefully come up with a much better car and strategy for the upcoming Formula
1 season.
