Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello optimistic for a race seat in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Rubens Barrichello said he is taking all the steps to make sure he can have a race seat secured for 2012.
Barrichello has not been performing as good as he would have liked in this season, with the veteran admitting that it has been one of the hardest years in the sport.
His contract is ending with Williams at the end of the current year. Barrichello was initially looking for Williams to stick with him. Earlier he had stated that he is the best option Williams had because of the experience he adds to the team.
The season saw Barrichello only add four points for Williams, and started from the back of the grid in Abu Dhabi.
The start of next year will mean Barrichello has completed two decades in the sport. He is looking to utilise those years in the game to secure a seat for next year. He mentioned to look into sponsors as well if that is what is going to take for him to get
a seat for 2012.
“I'm doing everything I can,” Barrichello told BBC. “I'm even looking for all the things such as sponsors if that's what we need. I'm looking for everything just to show that my passion is behind the steering wheel and I want to be there next year.
Obviously I'll be in charge of being in England as much as I can and trying to get my job.”
On the other hand, Williams has confirmed reports of ongoing negotiating over terms with the 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen for a possible return to the sport which he left in 2009.
Barrichello though seems optimistic for his future, by saying that if he was 19 or 20 years old, he would have been worried, but as he is turning 40 in the near future, and with all those years in experience he is going to enjoy life and not worry about
it.
He did concede though that he missed days when he had a competitive car with Honda and Brawn, but mostly wants to be there racing next year the most and wants to show his commitment behind the wheels.
