Williams driver Rubens Barrichello says he still has some potential in him – Formula 1 news
The Brazilian Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello thinks that there is still some racing left in him beyond the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Barrichello stated that although the Williams team is not delivering with the fastest car but he is not thinking of quitting Formula 1 after the 2011 season. He added that the Williams’ team will have to improve if they are to do something respectable in
the ongoing season.
Talking about Williams and their 2011 performance, Rubens stated, “The car's not there, you are fighting all the way, but having said that it's just too early to think about walking away. Driving a bad car is never bearable. It's never good enough, but I
have this big motivation to turn things around.”
The Brazilian further added that he is not yet thinking about retiring from the sport just because things are not working well for them at the moment.
“Not at the moment. I could stay at home and enjoy being with my kids, but I need this. I need the adrenaline, and I need to be able to turn things around. I'm sure I will, but I'm suffering here at the moment,” stated Barrichello.
Williams are having their worst Formula 1 season with absolutely no real effort to a podium or even a point scoring finish. In the latest encounter in Spain, Barrichello qualified in 19th place and finished 17th on the final standings.
After the first five races of the 2011 season, Williams are struggling more than ever. Taking responsibility of the problems that their car has, technical director Sam Michael and chief aerodynamicist Jon Tomlinson resigned.
Instead, the spy-gate guy, Mike Coughlan was signed by the Williams team who will take his responsibilities from June 2011.
Barrichello also appreciated Williams’ effort and commented that Mike will surely bring with him some innovations in the design to pull the team out of their misery.
The next race will be contested in Monaco on May 29, 2011 and Barrichello will work hard to get some higher positions in qualifiers so that some points can be targeted.
