Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello says there is a different way of treating car – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Williams’ driver Rubens Barrichello has said the media that the car is a different animal and there is different way of treating it.
He said Williams’ FW33 car is better than the 2010 one and he wants to know its fastest speed but it is difficult to know before stepping into the 2011 races.
The 38-year-old Brazilian will drive his second season with the Williams team however he admitted that the team condition is better than 2010. He appreciated the teamwork as they did good job and everything is ready in time for opening race of the season.
Dealing with the tyres, he shared his opinion about the Pirelli tyres degradation and said, “It is difficult for everyone but it depends on the balance you have. It gets to a point where tyre performance has completely gone and you can't bring it back. You
have to look after them but even then you wouldn't realistically be able make them survive a whole race.”
The Former Mercedes driver was confirmed for Williams in 2010 and he participated in all the 19 races over the season.
With regards to the pre-season tests, the Valencia session was declared very tough for him as he learnt the new features of upgraded package and testing on the new Pirelli tyres. As the FW33 car experienced mechanical problems in the Jerez test, it proved
unfortunate for Barrichello, except for the final day when he showed a surprising performance and finished positively for Williams.
In the third Barcelona test, his overall progress was also good however, he retained his performance into the final Barcelona test in Spain.
He is confident ahead of the Australian Grand Prix and said, “There is still a question mark about where we stand I know that we have improved but there are teams either side of us. I know how optimistic I am and I know how much I would love to say that
we will do really well, but what I will say is that I want to be in Q3 and to score points, and I think that is achievable.”
He went on to say that running with both Kinetic Energy Recovery System and the adjustable rear wing is quite tough. Moreover, he said this work has become a new challenge for a driver.
He added, “With KERS you have to look at the steering wheel to save as much as you want and to use it in the right places, so you're not looking straight ahead all the time. This is one of the things we are taking about with Charlie Whiting and Jean Todt
to try to improve.”
Barrichello will drive with his teammate Pastor Maldonado in the upcoming season which will start on March 27, 2011 in Australia.
