Williams driver Rubens Barrichello targeting seat for 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Williams’ Formula 1 driver Rubens Barrichello has said that he will hopefully feature in the team for the 2012 season for he will be 40 next year and would have competed in 20 Formula 1 seasons by then, which are two of the milestones he is looking to achieve.
The Brazilian driver added that the Williams team has been completely down and out in the 2011 season but a shift from the Cosworth machine to Renault will clearly make a difference for the 2012 season.
Barrichello also added if Williams do not boost their performance for the next season and are not willing to give him a handsome contract, he will then be looking for some other team for the 2012 season.
Barrichello has participated in a record number of Grands Prix (311) already in his 19-year career and is looking to achieve some more milestones.
“Next year I'll be 40, and I'll have been racing for 20 seasons in Formula One. They are good numbers, and I want those numbers. The most important thing is I just want to be racing next year, and hopefully I'll be here with Williams. I nearly stopped in
2008, and then the following season I had a fantastic year with Brawn,” added Barrichello.
The Brazilian further added that if it does not work out with Williams for the 2012 season, he will look for some other team.
“It's not a priority, But if there are other people willing to talk about next year, and Williams doesn't want me to drive for them, then yes, I'll look at going elsewhere,” stated Barrichello.
The Brazilian added that since Williams’ performance in the 2011 season is not impressive, a move to Renault engines will certainly improve the team’s performance for the upcoming season.
Barrichello is currently 39 years old and has not won a Formula 1 title in his entire career despite being a recent Ferrari driver.
He is determined to go for 2012 as well. Let’s see how he fares in the next season of Formula 1.
