Williams’ drivers Barrichello, Maldonado aim to score points in Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams team drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado are aiming to score points in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place on June 12, 2011.
After scoring points in the recently held Monaco Grand Prix, the team has aimed to pick up more points from in Montreal.
Barrichello had a good race weekend in Monte Carlo, where he successfully finished his race at the ninth place for the team.
The team driver discussed the next grand prix of ongoing season. He admitted that Canada is always a very special event in the Formula 1 calendar, as the country’s fans are amazing and always provide a great support to the participating teams.
He said, “The atmosphere is so relaxed and the racing is fantastic. It is important to get a good car set-up with a focus on managing the brakes and getting maximum traction. The minimum speed is low but traction is hard on tyres and there are a lot of hard
braking areas throughout the lap.”
On the other hand, his teammate Maldonado suffered an accident during the closing laps of the Monaco Grand Prix. Due to that, he could not impress the team and ended without points.
The team driver talked about the Montreal race and added that the race will be very difficult for him, as he has not raced at the track in his Formula 1 career so far.
The 26-year-old driver went on to mention, “The car, the team and myself are all still improving so it is looking positive. I last went to Canada in 1998 for a karting race and I really like the country, it has a great atmosphere so I’m looking forward to
going back.”
He further added that the Canadian race is looking very interesting for the drivers, as the double Drag Reduction System zone will come in very handy for overtaking.
After a successful Monaco GP, Williams are looking forward to score more points in Canada. Let’s see how the drivers produce the results there.
