Williams’ drivers Barrichello, Maldonado expecting better race pace in German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ drivers Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado are expecting better race pace in the German Grand Prix after a disappointing qualifying round in Nürburgring on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
Both of the drivers admitted that the race pace of their cars were not good enough to finish their good run on the grid during the Qualifiers of the German race weekend.
Despite their poor qualifying round results, Williams are hoping for improvements in terms of pace at the German Grand Prix.
The team driver, Barrichello has used a new front wing and diffuser system during the qualifying round in Nürburgring. The Brazilian did not use the Kinetic Energy Recovery System during the qualifying round at the German racetrack in order to gather data
for assessment.
He qualified in the 14th place ahead of Sauber’s Sergio Perez without using KERS.
Talking to the media, the 39-year-old driver said, “We knew we might struggle on my car as we weren't able to use KERS here. We didn't have an ideal balance on the car, particularly compared to the morning, and it wasn't possible to get on top of that during
the session. We need to analyse that in detail, and look for better pace in the race tomorrow.”
On the other hand, his teammate Maldonado admitted that it was a difficult qualifying session for them in Nürburgring.
The 26-year-old driver mentioned, “It was a difficult session for us. We were looking more competitive than this yesterday, but not enough to be in Q3. We were working more on race pace so we will see tomorrow. I think we have the possibility to score some
points if we have the right strategy.”
He ended his qualifying run at the 13th place ahead of his teammate Barrichello at the German race circuit. After finishing his Qualifiers run in the 13th spot, the Venezuelan is hoping for stronger results in the German Grand Prix.
The team is ready to perform well on the grid on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in Nürburgring following their disappointing qualifying round. Let’s see how both of the drivers manage their race in Germany.
