Williams eager to analyse Valtteri Bottas as their test driver in Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Williams are eagerly looking forward to analyse Valtteri Bottas as their test driver in the Young Driver Test which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit from July 12-13.
Bottas has driven for Williams in many free practice session in 2012 Formula 1 season so far and is being viewed as a competent race driver for the team.
Therefore, the chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan said that they are going to assess the Finnish driver in Silverstone so as to consider him as their race driver in the future.
“The Silverstone test is a two day young driver test, with Thursday being held on GP circuit and Friday on the International circuit, which for those who do not know is effectively southern bottom half of GP circuit,” Gillan said. “Williams is very fortunate
to have young test driver with talent and promise that Valtteri has and basically we want to put him through his paces over two day event.”
It will be important to mention that Bottas has always replaced Williams’ driver Bruno Senna in the first Friday free practice session of the 2012 British Grand Prix. However, he said that the Brazilian driver has performed really well in the last race.
"Bruno had a very good race and was particularly strong both at start and in last part of the race when he was fighting hard for the 9th place,” he said.
In addition, he said that they are ready to provide their drivers with everything for the forthcoming races to improve their pace in order to make their position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
Currently, they are standing at 7th place in the constructors’ championship with 47 points. Besides, they are 3 points ahead of Force India and 13 points behind their main rival, Sauber.
Additionally, they have emerged as one of the most competitive midfield contenders in the current season.
It will be important to mention that their driver, Pastor Maldonado took his maiden victory in the Spanish GP at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona which was Williams’ first win since 2004.
