Williams happy with 2011 Singapore Grand Prix updates – Formula 1 news
Williams have said that they are very happy with the recent upgrades that they applied to their car for the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 25.
These upgrades proved to be quite beneficial for team as they helped the drivers in gaining confidence and improving their performance.
Even though both the team drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Rubens Barrichello, were unable to finish the race in the top ten positions, they did a fairly good job. Maldonado ended up at 11th place while his teammate Barrichello managed
a 13th place for himself.
Mark Gillian, the team’s chief operation engineer applauded his team’s efforts and said, “Overall the team did a good job this weekend.”
He was impressed with his team’s pace when Barrichello was seen battling with Ferrari’s Felipe Massa after the safety car was deployed at the Singapore GP. He was seen battling for his 10th position for a major part of the race
however he lost his fight when Massa overtook him.
The struggling Williams team, which was sitting at the ninth place in this season’s championship when it entered the Singapore GP, was hoping to gain points that would help them climb up the championship standings.
They had incorporated some new upgrades to their car designed for the bumpy Marina Bay street track. A number of upgrades including a new diffuser, front and rear wings were introduced to the Williams car.
Not only did the upgrades help the team understand their upgraded car better at the end of the race, but also gave them a clearer picture of how to further improve upon them in the remaining races.
A huge progress was thus made prior to the Singapore race in terms of new upgrades for the Williams’ car. Many new upgrades that were installed were used, however, those that were not used in Singapore will be further tested and redesigned for better performance
at the upcoming Japanese GP.
Let’s see how Williams perform at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix with its modified upgrades. The Japanese Grand Prix takes place on October 9, 2011 at the Suzuka racetrack.
