Williams have many options for 2013 driver line-up – Formula 1 news
Williams are considering many options for their 2013 driver line-up and hope to make the necessary decision in this regard before the conclusion of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Toto Wolff, the executive director of the Grove based team expressed that they may replace any one of their drivers, Pastor Maldonado or Bruno Senna in the next season with their reserve driver, Valtteri Bottas who has performed tremendously well in the
Young Driver Test and has impressed everyone with his amazing driving skills.
It will be important to mention that Maldonado and Senna have struggled in most of the races in the season so far and have not attained desired results for the team.
However, the team founder and principal, Frank Williams has showed inclination towards keeping the Venezuelan driver who has brought strong sponsor with him. Moreover, his position also seems strong because he claimed an incredible victory for his team in
the Spanish Grand Prix after quite a long time.
Nevertheless, Wolff has recently said that they are evaluating some options for their coming year’s driver-up and are looking forward to make the decision before the end of the season.
“[An announcement] is going to be this year, but we don't know about the timing yet because we want to concentrate on this season and focus on our current drivers - that's important,” he said. “There are many options that we are looking at the moment and
it's not an easy one.”
In addition, he said that it will be very complex to decide which driver to take for the next year and they are considering both short-term and long-term options so as to come up with the right decision about the team’s future.
“It's a very tough decision. First of all we have been working with those guys for quite some time and of course that influences the decision a lot,” he added. “It is about weighing up short-term and long-term options and sometimes the best short-term option
isn't the best long-term option.”
It will be interesting to see who joins the British squad in the next season.
