Williams investigate causes of their drivers’ retirement in 2012 Singapore GP – Formula 1 news
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they are presently investigating the causes of the retirement of their drivers, Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado in the 2012 Singapore GP.
Maldonado performed tremendously well in the qualifying of the last race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore and secured second grid slot. Conversely, he could not score even a single point in the night race as was retired because of a hydraulic
problem during 37th lap.
On the other hand, his teammate, Senna struggled during the qualifying and later failed to attain any points as he was retired in the last lap.
After the race, Gillan expressed that they are trying their best to create an understanding about what happened with their drivers’ cars in the preceding race and said that they are confidently looking forward to find the essential solutions for the ongoing
issues.
“We are currently investigating the failures and have full confidence in getting to the root cause quickly and implementing required fixes as soon as possible,” Gillan said. “At this stage we do not believe that the heat played a part in the failures.”
Additionally, he said that their drivers performed quite convincingly in the previous race and he believes that if they hadn’t faced the retirement, they would have definitely attained some competitive points.
He also said that they are very much pleased with the performance of their drivers in the season so far and are ready to provide them everything which they may need to improve their performance in the remaining races.
“Both drivers did a very good job in the race, with Pastor fighting hard at the front and Bruno carving his way from the back into points scoring position before having to retire the car,” he added.
Furthermore, the Grove bases team asserted that although they are aware of the main causes of the retirements, however, they are going to make some thorough analysis before getting to the conclusion regarding the matter.
“We have a good idea but are still investigating just to make sure that we have covered all potential causes,” the team stated.
