Williams need time to decide 2013 drivers’ line-up – Formula 1 news
Williams have not decided their drivers’ line-up for the 2013 Formula 1 season and the team’s executive director, Toto Wolff has insisted that they need some time to make the decision about their future drivers.
At present, the British team is standing at seventh place in the constructors’ championship with 53 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Force India and are behind their main rival, Sauber.
Meanwhile, their driver, Pastor Maldonado is at 11th position in the drivers’ rankings with 29 points. Although, he scored his maiden win in the Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after claiming an incredible pole position.
However, he could not score any points in all the remaining races except for the Chinese GP in which he came 8th and secured 4 points for his team.
On the other hand, his teammate, Bruno Senna is at 15th place in the drivers’ standings with 24 points. Furthermore, he secured 6th place finish in the Malaysian GP which is his best performance in the season so far and has secured
two 7th place finishes in the Chinese and Hungarian GP.
Even though, he struggled in many races, nonetheless, he is looking comfortable behind the wheel of his car after the preceding race and is positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead.
Besides, Wolff said that they are also considering Valtteri Bottas for the next season whose performance they assessed during the Young Driver Test held at Silverstone Circuit. However, he said that presently they are not in a position to finalise their
drivers for the next season.
“The driver question has always been something that is very important to Frank (Williams), who has a lot of expertise,” he said. “Will Pastor or Valtteri be top drivers in the future? I believe so. So maybe the situation at the moment fits very well with
the car, even though that’s something difficult to understand. We have seen the driver (Maldonado) being very good this year in Barcelona or was that the car? It’s difficult to answer. Is it as good as Alonso or only as good as Massa? We don’t know.”
