Williams optimistic about their new car ‘FW33’
Team Williams have revealed their new car, named FW33, before the first pre-season test session in Valencia, expressing confidence they would do better now.
The team have signed Pastor Maldonado as a replacement for Nico Hulkenberg alongside Rubens Barrichello for the 2011 Formula 1 season, a step that has seemingly disappointed many fans. Nevertheless, the team believes that it made the right decision and that
they’ll be stronger than they were in 2010.
Rubens Barrichello says the team will try to approach the upcoming season in an aggressive way while team boss Sir Frank Williams hopes the 2011 season will be remarkable.
“Our ambition is to get back to the front of the grid. We know that won't be easy, but we hope this car will take us closer to the leaders than we were in 2010. As a team, we're as ambitious now as we've ever been,” says Williams.
Other than that, Williams’ technical director Sam Michael has not revealed much about the car at the team’s car launch as he believes that he cannot comment about the car until it is tested on the track.
“Until you start testing, you're never sure how you're going to stack up against the opposition, but we're optimistic. We think this is a good car, but we'll have a better overall picture in a few weeks time,” says Sam.
He says the design of the new car is pretty smooth and the team have done a good job with mechanical and aerodynamic improvements.
The teams that have already launched new cars are expected to use their test with their respective 2011 cars at the first pre-season session in Valencia. Out of the top running teams, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes will use their new cars at the session
while McLaren will reveal their new car after the first pre-season test on 04 February.
