Swansea City defender, Ashley Williams, was over the moon after being named as the skipper of the Wales national football team, and revealed that his new international role will help boost his confidence.
The Dragons were hammered 6-1 by Serbia in their previous World Cup qualifying match. It forced the manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Ramsey-c3065 from the post of captaincy, and instead handing over the skipper’s armband to the Swansea City player.
The 28-year old, who is also currently leading the South Wales club, has made 36 international appearances for Wales.
He has also been impressive during his stay at the Liberty Stadium, helping the Swans ascend to the English top-flight and is one of the senior members in the squad.
After being handed over a new role at the international stage, Williams let out his delight on getting the opportunity to represent his country at the highest stage.
He said that he was really excited about working alongside Coleman as he looks to wriggle the team out of their current morass, and also claimed that he enjoyed the support of the rest of his team-mates.
“I'm pleased to get the captaincy. It's obviously a great honour and once I meet up with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 I'll speak more to the gaffer and know a bit more about what he wants from me,” the defender is reported to have said.
“I've captained the team before so it's no great change. The boys know me and I know them so we'll go into a massive week and the most important thing, irrespective of who the captain is, is a win — especially in that first game.”
Williams also moved to dispel the impression that he will have difficulties working alongside Ramsey, claiming that the Gunners midfielder held no grudge against him.
