Williams set to introduce several upgrades in Turkish Grand Prix – Formula 1 Update
The Williams Formula 1 team has decided to deliver several new changes to the ‘FW33’ car at the Turkish Grand Prix scheduled for May 8.
The team is hoping that the updates, which included a revised front wing, rear wings and new brake ducts, will make the car competitive on the Turkish grid.
The team drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado had a poor start in the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, Williams has set a plan to introduce these upgrades in the machine to achieve better results in the Turkish race. The team is hoping that the
new features will help them to get back into points scoring position in the up-coming race weekend.
Williams’ director Sam Michael told the media, "The package for Turkey will include new brake ducts, revised front wing and rear wings, plus some other secondary items. Combined, these components should give the FW33 a decent step-up in performance. Our
objective is to get the car into the points as soon as possible."
He further added that the team is bringing a number of various updates to their 2011 car over the next few races, which is starting with the Istanbul Park race.
On the other hand, driver Rubens Barrichello commented on his team’s performance. He added that it is his wish to be a more competitive driver in the up-coming race weekend. Rubens went on to say, "I want to have a more competitive weekend with the team
than we have had so far this season. We have new parts coming for Turkey which will hopefully work in our favour."
He also discussed the performance of Williams last year. Rubens added that the 2010 season’s run was ‘quite good’ enough to count the team as a strong competitor, but their start in the 2011 season was poor.
With regards to Williams’ progress in the first three races of the season, both drivers have retired from the Melbourne race due to a transmission issue. The Malaysia race proved unlucky for both drivers, as they were again retired from the race due to some
technical issues in their cars.
The team took part in the recent Chinese race, with hopes of putting in a good performance on the grid. However, the Brazilian tried his best to gather a good run ahead of the participating contenders. He finished thirteenth place for the team, while his
team-mate Maldonado completed the race in eighteenth place. It was disappointing for the team, as both the drivers ended their race without any point.
After the race, the team was busy, pointed out the reason of why their package was unable to run faster on the track. However, they are planning to introduce some new changes in their 2011 car during the Turkish Grand Prix scheduled to take place on May
8.
