Williams show confidence on their 2013 driver line-up – Formula 1 news
Williams have shown full confidence on their 2013 driver line-up which includes Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas who will replace Bruno Senna.
Senna could not perform well in this season and failed to attain the desired results for his team. Moreover, he faced a lot of criticism over his poor driving style due to which many accidents were caused during the year. Therefore, the Grove based team
has replaced him with their reserve driver, Bottas who delivered amazing performance during the Young Driver Test this year.
On the other hand, Maldonado also struggled in most of the grands prix and could not score competitive points for his team. However, he scored his maiden race win the Spanish GP and brought the British squad their first victory after quite a long time.
Additionally, he became the first ever Venezuelan driver who won a race in F1 and has a strong backing of a huge sponsor which made his position stronger in his team and he successfully secured his race seat for the coming year.
Williams’ chief operations engineer, Mark Gillan has said that they are completely satisfied with their decision regarding the next year’s drive line-up.
In addition, he said that they have gained a lot of valuable information from the Finnish driver who replaced Senna is many free practice sessions during the year which helped them in making the essential developments in their car.
“It's a balancing act. It's something that we all knew at the beginning of the season and we did our best to mitigate Bruno missing FP1 and did our best to learn from Valtteri,” Gillan said.
“Each driver has different feedback. Bruno is different to Pastor, Valtteri is very different to Bruno and Pastor, and we've learned from that a lot. Valtteri benefited tremendously from it. We have got a lot from the third driver as well,” he said
“With Valtteri being in the simulator a lot, it's important that he's had track time so that our virtual simulation package can be pushed forward,” he added.
Besides, he said that they are aiming to take the most out of their development process during the winter testing to come up stronger in the next season.
