Williams sign engine deal with Mercedes-Benz for 2014 – Formula 1 news
Williams’ team owner, Sir Frank Williams has confirmed that they have signed an engine deal with Mercedes-Benz for the 2014 Formula 1 season and beyond.
The Grove based squad have been using Renault engine since 2012. However, they have planned to change their engine provider from the next year onwards and have signed an agreement with the Silver Arrows as there are going to be some radical changes in the
technical regulations by the FIA in the next season.
Williams has said that he is delighted to announce their new collaboration with the German company which has been one of the most successful engine suppliers in the history of the sport. Besides, he said that they are hoping to get a very competitive engine
package from their new engine provider.
“I'm delighted to announce our new association with Mercedes-Benz for the 2014 F1 season and beyond,” Williams said. “Mercedes-Benz has been one of the sport's most successful engine suppliers and we believe that they will have an extremely competitive engine
package.”
In addition, he expressed immense gratitude towards Renault for providing their services since the last year. He also said that they have enjoyed a very good relationship with the French engine manufacturer and shared some great moment of success on their
victory in Spain GP during the last season.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Renault for their continued hard work since we renewed our engine partnership at the beginning of the 2012 season. We have enjoyed a strong relationship that has resulted in much success over the years,
including powering us to winning ways once again last year at the Spanish GP,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mercedes executive director and co-owner in Williams, Toto Wolff also showed positive remarks on Williams-Mercedes deal and asserted that they are looking forward to achieve more success in the future.
It is to be noted that the British squad have not been able to score even a single point in this season until now because of some reliability issues. Nevertheless, they are trying to make some essential step-ups in their car to come up stronger in the forthcoming
races. It will be exciting to see how their drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas perform in the season ahead.
