Williams team boss Sir Frank Williams supports in-season testing: Formula 1 news
Williams’ boss Sir Frank Williams has recently stated that he would be in favour of in-season testing if the officials of the sport decide to reintroduce it.
McLaren also recently announced that they would support this reintroduction as well as a result of which it is believed that a limited amount of in-season testing might return to the sport in the near future.
“We just need to have a little more knowledge of our craft. You're under so much pressure to deliver a lap time for qualifying then you hope it all stays together in the race, which we've done for the most part and our car has been remarkably reliable,
but there's always a healthy appetite for a little more testing,” said Williams.
In-season testing was banned after the 2008 Formula 1 season and since then, the teams only get to test before the season starts and at practice sessions during a grand prix weekend.
As a result, the teams do not get to test their cars much and their cars do not improve as much as they used to since the teams do not gather much data.
Other than that, Williams talked about the rule changes that are expected to be enforced in 2014. He admitted that he is happy with the officials’ decision regarding the matter and the new engines are going to be quite interesting.
However, he added that these changes should not get more technical and that the sport should remain as close to racing as possible.
“I would imagine that around 20% of Formula One fans enjoy it for its technological advancement as much as they do for the racing, but most people just want to see good racing and this year's changes have certainly promoted that aspect,” he added.
Williams had their worst start to a Formula 1 season this year after which the team has decided to go through some major administrative and management changes. The team is hoping for some great results in the future and they are hoping for a positive
change next year.
