Williams team director Sam Michael impressed with Canadian Grand Prix show – Formula 1 news

Williams’ team director Sam Michael has said that he is happy and satisfied with the recently held Canadian Grand Prix, as the team driver Rubens Barrichello scored two points for the team over there.
He also mentioned that the new upgrades, including exhaust blown diffuser system and a new front wing helped them to progress well in Montreal. The team is moving in the right direction since the last couple of races and Michael is hopeful that they will
score more points in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team director admitted that their car pace was good in the Canadian race weekend and that it provided a good support to them until the end of the grand prix.
Williams had a worst start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, as both their drivers Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado were unable to finish their first two race weekends held in Australia and Malaysia respectively.
Before the start of the third round of the ongoing season, the team fixed all of their issues and made the car able to do better on the grid during the next races. However, after the Malaysian Grand Prix the team made some improvements in terms of performance
and successfully finished the next race weekends.
The team driver Barrichello seemed to be improving since the last couple of races. He scored two points each in the Monaco Grand Prix and in the recently held Canadian GP. Williams were quite impressed with their driver’s current position in the ongoing
season.
The team director discussed the Canadian Grand Prix and said that they set up both of their cars for the Canadian race according to wet weather conditions.
He also talked about the new Pirelli tyres and admitted that the supersoft and soft compounds provided an easy run to the drivers on both wet and dry tracks.
Michael said, “The tyres held up really well in terms of wear rate and degradation. We were only able to perform some accident repair work as the regulations don't allow for any other set-up changes.”
He went on to mention, “It is difficult to make a proper judgment about this as the tyre performance dominated overtaking ability. It certainly wasn't a bad thing so I'm sure this will be tried again in future.”
He added that they will bring a modified diffuser system in the upcoming European Grand Prix. He believes the new upgrades will allow them to score more points in Valencia.
The eighth round of the season will take place in Europe on June 26, 2011.
