Williams’ technical director Sam Michael disappointed with team’s efforts – Formula 1 news
Technical director of Team Williams Sam Michael has admitted that the team did not work hard enough on its new car even though it was looking very good during the pre-season testing period.
He stated that he is going to be a part of the team at least until the end of the ongoing 2011 season. It is believed that Sam might become a part of the Williams’ restructuring process as well.
Statistically, this is the worst start to a Formula 1 season by Team Williams in its history as both of the drivers were unable to finish the first two races in Australia and Malaysia and finished in 15th and 18th places at the third
race in China.
As a result, the team has decided to review the structure of the team and Michael revealed that he is not exempt from any changes.
“I don't exclude myself from any of that. I, as technical director, have chosen the technical team that works for me - the aero team, the design team, the operations group, the vehicle dynamics, the KERS guys,” said Michael.
He added that the team is going to review its performance and he is going to try his best to contribute to the team’s restructuring process. However, he added that he will not tolerate it if the team tells him that everything is perfect.
“As technical director the technical performance of the car comes under my responsibility. I think the job that we have done this year clearly is not good enough. There are lots of different reasons why. But either way, whatever team you are, I can easily
see that where we are at the moment is not good enough and that falls down to me,” said Michael.
Nevertheless, the team is hoping to improve its car and the team structure in order to improve its performance in future. Let’s see to what an extent they are able to do that.
