Williams testing exhaust on FW33 as per the 2012 season’s regulations – Formula 1 news
Williams have been testing the exhausts for its 2012 edition of the car, during the first morning of the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi.
The FW33 has been upgraded for the 2012 season from Williams and Valtteri Bottas is the first driver to test out the top-exiting exhaust layout visible, which makes Williams the first team to test exhausts in accordance to the latest regulation changes for
the 2012 season.
The FIA changed the rules to put an end to the excessive usage of exhaust gases emitting from the heavy engines to increase efficiency of the diffuser which will translate into enhanced down-force and performance.
Dani Clos is running for HRT at the Yas Marina circuit on day one, while the team has confirmed that Nathanael Berthon will also take part in the test this week. Berthon has been a consistent performer at the Formula Renault 3.5 this season and has said
that he is looking to gain experience from the programme and not looking out for a possible race seat.
“I'm pleased to have the chance to drive in this test for HRT as this will be my first real contact with a Formula 1 car,” Berthon said. “Without a doubt, this will be an experience that will reinforce my motivation for the future, and will help me to learn
and understand better all the technology of an F1 car and how the tyres react in different situations.”
“Formula 1 is what every driver aspires to reach but for me this is another step in my preparation for the future and my long-term objective; I'm just taking this as an experience. My target is to continue working and build my career step by step,” he further
added.
The programme is designed to serve the very purpose of giving experience to talented young drivers, and to get a glimpse of their potential. It is also to give the teams a better look at the pool of upcoming drivers.
It will be interesting to see which teams pick actually pick some of the young talent at display in Abu Dhabi for future endeavours and potential seats.
