Williams to introduce new upgrades for upcoming Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams will introduce new upgrades in their FW33 car for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place on June 12, 2011 in Montreal.
The team director Sam Michael informed the media that Williams’ drivers will test a pulled diffuser system and a new front wing design during the Friday practice session of the Montreal race weekend.
He added that after getting some points in recently held Monaco Grand Prix, they are looking forward to make more improving run in the next grand prix of the ongoing season.
Michael went on to mention, “We will have a new front wing, brake ducts, barge boards and modified diffuser to test during practice, as well as the obligatory new rear wing for the lower drag level required in Canada.”
Apart from that, the Grove-based outfit discussed that he is sure the use of Drag Reduction System twice in every lap of the race will enhance the overtaking chances among the drivers. In addition, he believes the new Pirelli tyres will make the race very
exciting in Montreal.
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) recently allowed double DRS zone for the first time in the 2011 season at the Canadian Grand Prix. It will definitely provide the best chances of overtaking to the drivers and due to that, the race will become
more interesting for the viewers.
He said, “The Montreal circuit is a great layout for overtaking and never fails to produce an exciting race. With the new tyres and DRS on two straights, I think this year’s race will be no exception. Set-up is geared towards aero efficiency on the straights
and maximising traction out of the slow speed corners.”
The team driver Rubens Barrichello had a good race weekend in Monte Carlo, where he successfully finished his race in the ninth spot and picked up two points in the end.
Williams were quite happy with their driver’s performance, however, for the seventh round of 2011 season they decided to deliver some new parts to their machine. The team will test the upgrades in the Friday Free Practice session on June 10, 2011 in Montreal.
