Williams to reveal its new car at the first pre-season test session in Valencia
Team Williams had a tough 2010 Formula 1 season since the team was unable to score good points throughout the season. Rubens Barrichello finished in 10th
place while his teammate Nico Hulkenberg finished in 14th place in the drivers’ standings. The team revealed a couple of weeks ago that they have released their driver Nico Hulkenberg in order to make space for Pastor Maldonado.
The team signed the Venezuelan and according to some reports, it was mainly due to the fact that Pastor was bringing a major sponsor from PDVSA with him. Otherwise, Nico Hulkenberg performed pretty well - keeping in mind that it
was his debut season.
He scored a pole position at the Brazilian Grand Prix in dry conditions and scored a time almost a second faster than the rest of the pack. It was an extremely impressive performance since he did not have a very strong car as compared
to the rest.
The team recently revealed that they will also launch their 2011 Formula 1 car at the first pre-season test session in Valencia, but only Rubens is going to take part at that session.
According to some reports, Pastor Maldonado will get his hands on the FW33 during the second day of practice as both drivers are expected to share the pre-season testing equally. Other than them, Red Bull Racing Team, Ferrari and
some other teams are also expected to release their new cars at the session.
McLaren has stated that like always, they will reveal their car after the rest of the teams and as a result, the team is expected to reveal its new car on the 4th
of February in Berlin.
The team’s engineering boss and co-owner of Team Williams Patrick Head is hoping for better results this season.
“Rubens told the media that he thought the car looked radical, but I think it is just more adventurous than our 2010 car, and to move upwards in team order, it will need to be,” he said.
However, he admits that it is “unfortunate” Nico Hulkenberg won’t be in the team this year even though he deserves the seat on merit, but he is satisfied with Pastor’s performance as well.
