Williamson looking to emulate the Indian way of handling spin – Cricket News Update
New Zealand middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KS-Williamson-c1813, says that he is looking to take a leaf out the Indian batting manual in order to handle spin after the Men in Blue spinners dismantled the Kiwi side by an innings margin during the opening Test at Hyderabad.
It was another embarrassing capitulation for the men from Down Under, who again displayed poor conviction on slow, turning tracks and managed just 159 and 164 in reply to the hosts’ 438. Their inability to cope spin has baffled many and has mentally left
them drained.
After being outsmarted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792.
Ashwin remained the chief tormentor, taking six scalps in each innings to rock the tourists, leading http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LRPL-Taylor-c1849 to claim that his side has a mental block to overcome rather than trying to improve their techniques.
The only player to offer resistance was Williamson, who after making 32 in the first innings managed to notch up a battling 52 in the second – the only half-century score from a Kiwi batter. The youngster attributed his improved performance on his willingness
to closely study the Indian batsmen, who he felt were more inclined to play against the turning ball - a stark difference from the old school of hitting with the spin.
"One thing that's been quite clear is, growing up in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 we've been taught to hit with the spin whereas their [India's] players tend to bat the other way and hit back into the spin," Williamson said. "It's quite a change, but it's something they
all look to do, so it's quite a clear difference and something that our batsmen are looking at as potential options."
"It's about giving yourself a bit more room in terms of where you bat, so you have an option rather than the ball always spinning into your pads and getting caught up.”
The second and final Test between the two sides begins on the 31st of this month, at Bangalore. The series concludes with two T20Is before both teams kick-off their World T20 preparations.
