Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is relishing the derby clash against rivals Sunderland next week when the Premier League resumes.
The player believes the game against Sunderland will ‘shape Newcastle United’s season’ after the club failed to make an impact since the Premier League started back in August.
Newcastle have only managed 2 wins from their 7 league games, and have not been very impressive. The club has failed to live up to the expectations that were place on it after last season’s surprising 5th place finish.
Managing convincing victories against the likes of Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, the club went on to score some brilliant goals and defied expectations as it finished at the 5th spot.
This time around however, the Magpies have not made the same flying start they did last season. The club recently lost to Manchester United at home in an embarrassing 0-3 score line, and were dealt further blows as midfielders Haris Vuckic and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dan-Gosling-c9845
sustained injuries in last night’s u-21 game against Aston Villa.
Defender Mike Williamson knows the club is struggling to find form, but is confident that they will find their rhythm soon and kick start the season off.
Newcastle will take on fierce local rivals Sunderland next weekend after the international break, and will be looking for nothing less than three points.
The game is set to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams having suffered 3-0 defeats on the weekend. Speaking about the game, Williamson said:
“The next game has the potential to shape our season. It’s been a bit stop-start so far so this is a massive opportunity for us. Our target is to go there and get three points and it could well be a springboard for us."
"The next two weeks will be all about that. We've got to look forward, physically and mentally, to going there and winning."
Williamson knows that a game against Sunderland is always a feisty encounter, and is aware of its importance.
"I think the lads - the majority of us - have played in them and won in them. We know what they're all about and we'll be ready,” he added.
