http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eden-Hazard-c11863 and Juan Mata failed to turn up as Chelsea lost out to the Ukrainian giants.
The midfield was especially poor, with Mata unable to play with his usual fluidity and ease. The backline looked nervy and vulnerable at times, and were not properly shielded by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Obi-Mikel-c18882.
Up front, Chelsea failed to provide an attacking threat to Shakhtar, who dominated the game for the majority of the 90 minutes.
Before the game, the Brazilian playmaker revealed that Tottenham and Chelsea had both made an approach for him during the summers, but were turned away by his club. He also admitted that it would have been difficult to choose between both London clubs if he were to decide on a move away from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032.
Speaking to the press, he said:
“There were two offers in the summer; one from Chelsea and one from Tottenham. Choosing between the two clubs would be difficult. I don’t know.”
Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu insists that Chelsea made a huge mistake by missing out on the Brazilian playmaker, and had urged the player to turn up the heat against the Blues.
The 24-year old also spoke of the attraction of playing for Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham and their newly appointed manager Andre Villa-Boas.
"I mean, Tottenham is a big club and it has a good person in charge. Andre Villas-Boas wanted to bring me to Chelsea and also tried at Tottenham," Willian added.
"He always sends me messages. We are always in touch, and he has become a friend, for sure. And Chelsea is Chelsea. They are a great team, with amazing players and are the champions of Europe."
