Willie Limond eyes Euro title after his bout against Pole Arek Malek – Boxing news
The Scottish national professional boxer, Willie Limond, who is currently the WBU Lightweight Champion and the former IBO Inter-Continental Champion, is ready to take on Light middleweight contender of Poland, Arek Malek at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, Scotland
on June 3, 2011.
If the 32-year-old, Limond wins against Malek, he will travel to Wales for a European title shot. Limond’s next opponent for that European title will be the winner of Gavin Rees’ clash vs. Andrew Murray bout.
The former Commonwealth Lightweight Champion, Limond fought 36 total bouts of which he won 33 competitive crowns against the world best fighters (including 8 knockout wins) with 3 losses and no draws in his professional boxing career.
The 33-year-old, Malek has not been so impressive since he joined boxing as a professional. Malek just won 10 competitive bouts but he has lost 38 of his total 50 crowns with 2 draws to his career.
Limond has been an outstanding performer since his debut, fighting against big names in his long boxing career such as Erik Morales, Amir Khan and Alex Arthur.
Limond said, “Scottish sport always seems to be about 'what if?' I don't want to be a nearly man. I'm 32 and I've been boxing since I was six, I want to go out of this game, whenever that may be, with something to show for the time and effort I've put in.”
Adding to this, the Scot said, “I need to put up a good performance against Malek and make a European title fight, if one came along for me in Glasgow, a major event at the box office, I know nothing about this man from Warsaw I'm fighting except he likes
to come forward. But the chance to fight for the European title is all the incentive I need to win.”
The manager of Limond, Tommy Gilmour believes that if Limond could hit Malek right onto his chin, then he will win the bout.
The unbeaten European lightweight, Murray is very hopeful to win his bout against Rees.
Let’s see who amongst the two pugilists wins the bout.
