Willie Mullins eager to win the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase
Willie Mullins is eager to win the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park on Thursday, January 26, 2012. He will be running four of his trained horses in the chase in order to win a cash prize of €52,000.
The Mullins’ trained horses to take part in the race are Shakervilz, Some Target, On His Own and Quadrillon. The bookmakers have given mixed opinions over which one of these runners will end up on top in the chase, as they believe all are pretty evenly
matched.
Commenting on the chances of his horses, Mullins said, “Shakervilz will love the ground and the trip will be no trouble to him but he might have a shade too much weight. The trip won't be a problem for Some Target and I think he'll handle the test
of stamina.”
He further went onto say that, On His Own, might have the advantage because of his weight, but was unsure whether the eight-year-old horse would like the surface in Gowran Park or not.
However, he did not make any comments about Quadrillon, who does not seem to be the ideal for victory in the chase. The eight-year-old has participated in seven chase events, but only managed to win one of them.
The favourite horse to win at Gowran Park is, Start Me Up, trained by Charlie Swan. He has been given a starting price of 7 to 1, but will not find it easy to win, as the other horses have also been trained extremely well.
Swan understands the fact that, Start Me Up, will have to be at his best to win the chase, but he was confident about the form and fitness of his horse.
The trainer of the favourite horse claimed, “The trip and ground should suit. The form of his beginners' chase win worked out well afterwards when the second and third both won and with a bit of luck we're hoping he'll put up a good show.”
Start Me Up has entered four chase events and has won once. He also finished third on one occasion and will be aiming to improve his record by winning the Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase.
