Well, I'll admit, I'm not the skinniest guy out there ;) And I'll also admit, that I'd love to lose a lot of weight, too.

I'm kinda embarrassed to say, I'm 14 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, and I weigh 165 pounds. I'm willing to spend as much time necessary to go down to about 130-ish.

For the past week, I've been doing several sets of 25 sit ups, and several sets of 20 push ups (several in this case is around 4 or 5), as well has leg raises, and calf raises. I also run a mile on the treadmill, and bike at 15mph on the stationary bike for about 20 minutes. I also drink plenty of water and I eat my fruits and veggies too :) As of food, I am Persian, so my mom cooks food every day. It's usually a beef/chicken/vegetable stew, and I'm pretty sure that's not unhealthy =]

I'm pretty sure that's not enough to see results anytime soon.. but what do you recommend? Should I keep doing what I'm doing for a few months, or should I do some more things? Thank you for your help! =]

  1. If you really want to lose weight, do not do sit-ups, leg raises, calf raises or push-ups. The reason is because they do not help you to lose weight; they only build your muscles. Muscles are denser than fats, so you might look a teeny bit slimmer, but your weight will remain the same. I'm sorry to reveal it to you, but stationary bikes are of no use because they train your leg muscles not intensively, but slowly. I used to bike on stationary bikes, and i found out that it did not really help me a lot.

Running a mile on the treadmill a day is not a lot. You might want to consider running more, for example, 3 miles. When running on a treadmill, fats are burned in layers, the first layer being the slowest to start burning. You need to run at a speed of 7mph for 15 minutes to start burning the outermost layer of fats. For losing weight, you would have to run for 30 minutes, take a break of 2 minutes, then continue running for 30 minutes. In this case, you can see at least a 2kg weight loss in one week.

In fact, the food that you are eating is really unhealthy. Beef stew contains the most carbohydrates, as beef is red meat. Chicken is still okay, as it contains a considerable amount of protein and not that much carbohydrates. Vegetable stew is fine. However, if you eat stew for more than once a week, the chances are that you would be overweight. Have you ever asked your mom how much salt/ soy sauce she puts into the stew? You would be surprised at the amount. I recommend baked fish, as it contains lots of protein and little fat.

    Good luck! =]

  2. Being 14, your body still needs to age gracefully.  Small diets work for a man your age.  You are not too far over weight to be worried about it.  I am 5'7" and 130lb.  You shouldn't be that thin until your 20s when your body is full grown.  Your a tall, stout young man and working out is good for you, but you can easily over do it.

Keep up with the fruits and veggies, water and excersize.  Just don't over do it for now.  Eat less of mom's dinner.  Sounds good, tho.

  4. Your exercise routine is good. Make sure you are eating 4-5 small meals a day every 2-3 hours and NO junk foods & sweets. The foods your mum cooks sound good though! you can also keep track of how many calories your having a day here: www.calorieking.com

    Good luck :)

  5. Keep at what you are doing and add more reps and more length on the treadmill.  By three months you will see a difference and your physique will continue to improve.  It is great that you are taking on these changes when you are young. It is easier then.  If you keep exercising you will be healthy and good looking for your whole life!
