Wilshere labelled Arsenal’s win over Barcelona ‘My best day as an Arsenal player’
Arsenal’s rising star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463, has tagged his side’s 2-1 Champions League win over Barcelona as ‘My best day as an Arsenal player.’ Wilshere has impressed all with his mature performances on the field and his talent was on full display for Arsenal
in last night’s clash with the Spanish Champions.
The Englishman expressed his delight over the win saying, “It has been a crazy last couple of weeks and this probably tops it. This has been my best day as an Arsenal player by far. It is not over yet. We have got the second leg and we have to go there and
get a result and go through to the quarters.”
Wilshere went on to attribute the win to Arsenal’s effective play on the counter-attack. He acknowledged that there were spells in the game where Barcelona deprived the home side of the ball. He, however, stated that his side was aware, even before the match,
that the visitors will enjoy high possession of the ball.
Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger, still feels that Barcelona are in the driving seat. The Frenchman, however, also stated that his young side will gain confidence from the first leg win which will help them in the second leg clash between the two sides.
The Gunners will surely have opportunities to play their famous counter-attacking game at the Camp Nou as Barcelona will be looking to attack. The home side will need to put at least one goal past the Arsenal keeper to progress through to the quarter-final.
This will leave the Catalans vulnerable to a counter-attack.
Scorer of the winning goal in the Emirates Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrei-Arshavin-c5771, has admitted that the second leg game away from home will be tough. He also praised Arsenal’s fans for creating the ‘the best atmosphere’ during the first leg at home.
The Russian said, “Barca controlled the ball very well but we did not let them play as usually they can and we took our chances to score two goals. I thought if I have a chance I have to score and I did it. That may be the best atmosphere since I joined
Arsenal. It gives us confidence in the future but we still need to concentrate because Barcelona is going to be a very, very tough game.”
Both Arshavin and Wilshere have been an integral part of Wenger’s setup this season and the two players will predictably feature in the second leg clash at the Camp Nou.
Wilshere’s remarkable performance for his club also earned him a place in England’s starting eleven for a friendly against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011
for the second leg tie against Barcelona on March 8.
