Wilshere right for Arsenal after Bolton loan
Arsenal prospect Jack Wilshere has said that his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers last season gave him just the experience he needed to challenge for a place in Arsène Wenger's starting eleven.
Wilshere, perhaps the most promising young player in Wenger's squad, joined the Arsenal Academy in 2001, at nine years of age. The Englishman spent last season on loan to Bolton, for whom he made 14 league appearances.
“Last year, I had to go out on loan because there are world-class players at Arsenal and I needed to get some games,” Wilshere said, following Arsenal's 6–0 victory over Braga on Wednesday. “It was perfect for me. I’ve come back with more experience and
the boss now thinks I’m ready to play games."
So far this season, Wilshere has started in three of Arsenal's four Premier League games, and on Wednesday, he started his first game in the Champions League.
Having found himself unable to challenge for a place in Arsenal's central midfield in recent seasons, the youngster has now formed a fruitful partnership with some of the club's stars, including Captain Cesc Fabregas, who also came through the Arsenal Academy,
and Alex Song.
“It is perfect, playing with Cesc and Alex. We move well and play well together. It was an open game and we showed we could score goals as well," Wilshere said about the performance against Braga.
Delightful flick for Arsenal's third
Wilshere played a crucial part in Arsenal's third goal on Wednesday. He was found by Marouane Chamakh in the opposition's penalty box, and with little time or space, the 18-year-old produced a clever, back-heeled return to the Moroccan, who went on to score.
“It was just instinct,” he said about the pass that had the otherwise calm Wenger off his seat at the Emirates Stadium. “It came off and it was a good finish from Chamakh. Playing with people like Fabregas makes it easy for you. He’ll talk to you and talk
you through games. We saw what he could do tonight."
