Wilson Ramos returns to Washington Nationals’ ballpark after kidnapping incident – MLB Update
After a week of tensions, Washington Nationals’ Wilson Ramos returned to the ballpark on Friday, November 18 to ensure that he was perfectly fine after the kidnapping incident and to thank the management and fans for their support during the difficult time.
The Nationals’ catcher made a surprise visit to the ballclub and there were no team-mates to welcome the player. The management had called Ramos to prove his physical strength after being released from the captivity of the criminals in order to ensure that
the player remains on roster for the next season. After an outbreak rookie season, Ramos had no issues in proving his fitness to the ballclub and it was more of a formality in the end.
Ramos had returned to his native Venezuela after this past season to spend the winter with his family and represent a local outfit in the Venezuelan winter league. The Nationals had recommended Ramos to return to the United States, but had left the final
decision for the player to make. Ramos, keeping in mind the anticipation of local fans, decided to stay in Venezuela and play in the winter league. He will return to his native country and it is expected that he will start playing in the winter league as early
as the next week.
The management of Washington, after making a promising end to this past season, is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to keep the roster intact for the next season. The Nationals failed to make a mark in the first half of the season, but Davey Johnson came
to the helm of affairs after the All-Star break and supervised a momentous comeback in the second-half, managing a 40-43 win-loss record for the Nationals with a roster that was not exactly to his liking.
Addressing to a press conference with general manager Mike Rizzo, Ramos stated that he was thankful to the fans for their prayers and that he is happy to be a part of the family again. He asserted that he will be back in spring training and will try to achieve
more for the ballclub in the next season.
Ramos was kidnapped from right outside his home in Venezuela and remained in custody of the criminals for 51 hours. It was a high-profile police operation, ordered by the top authorities of the country, which helped in rescuing Ramos, who has gained popularity
as the most exciting baseball talent in the country.
The player explained that there was an exchange of fire between the rescuers and criminals before he was finally rescued from a mountainous area in Venezuela. This matter was brought up in the annual general managers’ meeting as well and all parties have
agreed to increase security measures for players and management alike.
