Wilson Ramos safe and alive – MLB Update
While no contact could be established with the kidnappers for information regarding Venezuelan baseball star and Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos, Venezuelan police confirmed that the player is still alive and that the vehicle used to kidnap him
from the porch of his home was recovered.
Police added that sketches of four gunmen have been developed and it is just a matter of time before Ramos is recovered safely from the kidnappers. It is believed that the culprits are backed by a criminal organisation and that this activity was not possible
for a street gang. Ramos’ family and friends confirmed that the kidnappers were heavily armed and thus it was not possible for anyone to agitate.
There is still no demand for ransom from the kidnappers and all people related to Wilson are anxiously waiting for a phone call. Officials of Venezuela have asserted that the kidnappers might demand a figure between ten to 20-million-dollars, which might
be a bit too much for the family to fulfil. Ramos earned 415-thousand-dollars from the Nationals this past season and any amount in excess of this will come harsh to the family.
Kidnapping activities in Venezuela are on the rise and people who are accustomed to the country are not surprised by the incident. 895 official kidnappings were made last year and the figure might be inflated when statistics are released later this year.
To cater to this growing epidemic, companies in Venezuela have started selling kidnapping insurance and it has been noted that people who buy the insurance become more of a target.
Baltimore Orioles’ Luke Scott is accustomed to Venezuela and believes that Ramos’ kidnapping was more of a professional hit. Scott has played twice in Venezuela’s winter league and has visited the country several times for missionary work as well.
Scott said, “Most of the time, they’re professional hits. To my knowledge, what I’ve seen and heard, people are planning this out. They’re putting some thought and preparation into this, and they’re looking for their moment.”
Major League Baseball and Washington Nationals did not comment on the situation due to the complexity of the matter.
