Wilson Ramos safely rescued after the infamous kidnapping incident – MLB Update
After two days of intense anxiety, Venezuelan police confirmed that Washington Nationals’ catcher Wilson Ramos has been rescued from a mountainous zone in the area of Montalban in central Carabobo state on Friday, November 11 and three culprits were arrested
during the raid.
Venezuelan Information Minister Andres Izarra asserted that Ramos was rescued via an air operation which was authorised by President Hugo Chavez earlier in the day. Giving details of the arrests made, Justice Minister Tareck El Aissami stated that one of
the three people arrested had links with paramilitary and kidnapping groups.
Ramos was kidnapped on Wednesday, November 9 from just outside his home in Venezuela and it had stirred anxiousness throughout the country. People accustomed to the country were not surprised by the incident and articulated that such activities have become
common in Venezuela to get ransom.
El Aissami furthered that Ramos will now be taken to his hometown of Valencia after undergoing medical checks at the police station. The player had just returned from his rookie season with the Nationals and was scheduled to debut in the Venezuelan winter
league on Wednesday, November 16, but the incident made it unlikely. However, now that Ramos is safe, it remains to be seen whether the catcher plays in the league or not.
Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball had made no remarks on the incident due to the complexity of the situation, but were overly excited on the outbreak of this news.
Nationals’ general manager Mike Rizzo said, "Though details are limited and we have not yet talked directly with Wilson, we are thrilled with reports that he has been rescued. We greatly appreciate all the prayers and thoughts of all who have joined us in
wishing for this conclusion to what has been a nightmarish 48 hours. We are eager to see Wilson and let him know just how many all over the world have been waiting for this news."
Wilson’s family and friends were excessively disturbed by this incident, but cried out in happiness on learning that the rescue operation was successful. Ramos’ mother was thankful to all people who had prayed in this difficult time for the family and stated
that talking to her son on the phone was a blessing.
