Wilson Ramos to have second surgery as he makes strides in recovery - MLB Update
A promising catcher for the Washington Nationals endures a grim reality of not being a part of the clubs’ crew for the season. Being left out due to injury which came about during a game when he tried to reach a passed ball and ended up getting his joint
damaged, he is currently bracing for the second surgery.
First surgery had worked to cure his torn meniscus, where as the second surgery will be completely eliminating the damage wreaked on the joint.
Wounds due to the first surgery have yet to fade away. For the same reason, he is using crutches to walk.
While the injury is severe and has impeded his quest heavily, the fact he is still 24, he has a great career awaiting him ahead.
Not only as a catcher, but as a hitter he was turning out to be a valuable option during the middle passage of the innings. Before the injury, he was hitting .265, with three home-runs and 10 RBIs. In light of a relative mediocrity of the Nationals’ offence,
he was among the best, as far as connecting hits was concerned.
His injury may have been hard on him as it did not prove as worrisome for the Nationals. It was due to the perfect contingency plan that the manager Davey Johnson had contrived.
Jesus Flores was part of the plans that stated, he will be thrown in as catcher on the occurrence of injury by Wilson.
His credentials as catcher and as a hitter were not far from what Ramos boasted.
Though he has faced lesser number of at-bats so far in the season, whenever he was handed opportunity, he lived up to his role.
Taking about the depression the injury had inflicted on him, Wilson stated that at the start he was disheartened, but as the days passed, misery subsided.
“The first days were difficult,” he said. “Now, my mind is much calmer. I’m calmer now because I know I’ll be fine for next season.”
Currently, Wilson is resting, while occasionally he spends time with family.
“I stay occupied, talk to my family which has supported me during this time,” he said. “And sometimes I come watch the games. But I’m usually home, resting and resting my knee as much as I can.”
Second surgery he will undergo will decide as to how long he can take further to start practicing at the park. He will be looking forward to positive results coming from it.
