Wilson Ramos’ triple RBIs helps Washington Nationals defeat Seattle Mariners 6-5 – MLB Update
Washington Nationals’ catcher, Wilson Ramos had an outstanding day with the bat as he hit three RBIs and scored one run with 1-for-4 in the Nationals’ 6-5 win against the Seattle Mariners at Nationals Park, Washington on June 21.
The Nationals overcome the Mariners in the first game of a series and took a 1-0 lead.
During the first inning, the Mariners led off with 2-0 by scoring two runs. Ichiro Suzuki posted one run on the drive of Adam Kennedy towards right-centre while Kennedy scored a single run when Dustin Ackley singled off the right-field.
The batters were score-less in the second inning. The Mariners raised their lead 3-0 in the third inning when Ackley hit a grounder towards first base and Brendan Ryan added one run. During the fourth inning, Doug Fister singled to right-field and Franklin
Gutierrez scored one run to give the Mariners a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Ryan posted his second run of the game when Kennedy hit a shot towards right-field spot. The score-card was 5-0 after the fifth inning. On the other side, the Nationals’ batters were unable to score even a single run until the fifth
inning. However, they broke the silence of their supporters by getting off the mark in the sixth inning and reduced their lead 5-1.
Roger Bernadina singled to centre-field and Ian Desmond scored the initial run for the Nationals at the bottom of the sixth inning. In the seventh and eighth inning, the pitchers lobbed the fastballs and controlled the shots of the batters.
Livan Hernandez was little bit shaky with the ball as he pitched four innings with an ERA of 3.97 and gave five runs on 10 hits including four earned runs. He was able to strike-out two batters and permitted just one walk on his 70 pitches.
Ramos stated his excitement and said, “I was pretty excited after I hit that homer. That was my first walk-off home run in my career. So when I saw my teammates waiting for me at home plate, I was very, very excited."
The Nationals went ahead 6-5 by exploding five runs in the ninth inning. Jayson Werth, Michael Morse, Danny Espinosa and Jerry Hairston Jr. each contributed four runs while Ramos struck a solo homer (432 feet) towards left centre to complete a five-run campaign.
