Wilson launch 4 new strings in time for 2011 season
Wilson tennis products are among the most popular sports brands used by professional tennis players. Their racquets are used among a great number of professional tennis players, including World Number 1, Pete Sampras. He used the Kevlar Pro Staff (also used
by current World Number 2 Roger Federer) to win his 14 Grand Slam singles titles. Other players who used Wilson products during their career were Jack Kramer, Chris Evert, Jimmy Connors and Steffi Graf.
At the end of last year, Wilson launched their latest series of racquets name BLX (originally codenamed 20x). This new line replaced their previous series, the K-Factor, with a number of new innovations. In addition to this a number of professional players
prefer to use racquets specially designed to suit their particular style of play, instead of competing with commercially produced ones.
In addition to tennis racquets, the Wilson company also provides the tennis world with shoes, clothes, bags and strings. Once again launching a new product right in time for the Australian Open, Wilson has recently produced four new strings. These have come
out just in time for the 2011 season, using new research and technology to provide players with a better playing experience than ever before.
These four strings are the Shock Shield string, the Red Alert string, the NXT Control and the SGX 16 string. This article will provide an overview of the purpose and use of these strings. While Roger Federer is pictured on all four packages, he himself uses
the more elite Wilson Champion’s Choice.
The Shock Shield
This new string is especially made for tennis players who experience discomfort in their arms (such as tennis elbow) while playing. The new string has a gel filled core which prevents shock and helps to reduce vibration in the racquet frame. The special
construction of the string is designed to ease tension and provide players with maximum control and comfort. The string is produced for use in combination with the Shock Shield Hybrid grip vibration dampener. Both these products are made with IsoZorb Gel to
provide optimum comfort.
Red Alert
For players who are on the lookout for a string which they will not be forced to change frequently, Red Alert is currently advertised as the most durable synthetic gut to be made by Wilson. The surface of Red Alert is slight textured, a change which enables
it to grip the ball better and provide bite. The high quality nylon coating also increases durability of the string; Red Alert promises to be two times stronger than the normal synthetic gut string. The company reviews Red Alert as having “triangular shaped
monofilament wraps” which promise to offer a “crisp feel on every shot.”
NXT Control
The NXT Control is the newest addition to the NXT family of products. It is a combination of nylon fibre bundles, polyurethane and polyester. The fibres of polyester add control to the racquet, and the fibres of nylon provide greater power. The polyurethane
fibres serve the purpose of binding the fibres into each other, and the string offers shock absorption and ease which NXT strings are most popular for.
SGX 16
The new string, SGX 16, is made up of a high energy core which is completely surrounded by two-directional X-bands. These bands provide the racquet with a softer feel and a more comfortable grip. It is available in many colours, and is made to suit all styles
and abilities. This is one of the best strings for beginners as well as pros.
