The Boys in Green lost all of their group fixtures in the coveted European event, with the 24-year old forced to watch the proceedings from the sidelines.
Earlier, Trapattoni had revealed that Gibson communicated his apprehensions and disappointment to him over his limited participation in the Euros. The manager then offered him a key place in the team, and asked him to seek a fresh start altogether.

Despite all the uncertainty surrounding the midfielder’s international future, Wilson was confident that his compatriot will soon join the folds of the Irish team, and felt that his presence will serve as a big boost for the entire unit.
“I know Darron quite well. I think he will be back again. I hope he does because he is a good player and I think he could be really good for the team,” he told the reporters in an interview.
The defender also conceded that Gibson’s disappointment was understandable, as he was desperate to make an impression in one of the biggest football tournaments.
At the same time, the 25-year old insisted that the creative play-maker should maintain the team discipline, and respect the decisions of his manager.
“I could see why he would be disappointed (that he didn't play at Euro 2012). He is a good player, but the manager selects the team and you have to respect his decision and just get on with it,” he added.
All in all, Gibson has made 16 international appearances for his country, and has also got one goal under his belt.
