Wimbledon 2008-Who will win?

Question

This year looks to be the most open championships in a long time.On the mens side we have Federer the 5x champion but out of form this year. We have Djokovic and Nadal breathing down his neck.Unlike the French, Anyone of the 3 could win But also the loss of form of Federer will encourage the likes of Hewitt and Roddick. Also with lowly ranked players like Ancic, Bagdatis and Hewitt playing highly ranked players like Davedenko and Ferrer early on who cannot play on grass will give them an oppotunity to do really well. Gasquet and Murray and Berdych will also be looking to do well.

On the womens side the Williams sisters are always contenders here at Wimbledon so they will have a chance.Sharapova and Ivanovic have the grass game to win. But for an outside bet what about past champions Maursemo and Davenport? Also the likes of Safina and Zvonareva and then Vaidisova,Bartoli,Mauresmo and Chakvedadze looking to return to form.

Who do you think will win? Cause Upsets? What about Murray?

I think Nadal will beat Djokovic in the final. I think Roger Federer has sort of, "passed his peak" now if you know what i mean

I want to say Nadal or possibly Djokovic but Federer IS the one to beat so I guess in the end just like Nadal is the king of clay, Federer is the king of grass, therefore will win again this yr.

It's hard to pick since grass court season had just recently started and a lot of top players are withdrawing from grass tournaments and most of them will not be playing at all. It's still be between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Nadal beat Federer in straight sets to win the French Open, that should give him a lot of confidence if he has to meet Federer again. He pushed Federer to five sets last year but Federer failed to take a set off Nadal at French Open's final (He took a set off Nadal in previous years). Federer seems to be out of form since the beginning of the year, so my pick would be Nadal. He could pull up a surprise this year. And I'm pretty sure Novak Djokovic would reach at least the semifinals, most probably losing to whether he is put in the top or the bottom draw.

In the Women's side, you can never count the Williams sisters out. Venus Williams could win another Wimbledon title as she said she already looked forward to it. Sharapova could make a good run and could possilby make the final or win the title as well. Remember that grass is their best surface. I doubt that players like Vaidisova, Bartoli, Mauresmo, and Chakvetadze would return to their form by Wimbledon.

That's a good question...  This year it is quite open in the way Federer is not sure 99% to win it but he is likely. I would not bet any name out of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic though!

Men's: Federer (though he'll be less of a favorite than in previous years)

Women's: who knows. The women's side is so wide open. Sharapova I guess.

um.. i would say that whatever you have said is true; the top three contenders are federer djoker and rafa. rafa could win, but fed has more experience on grass, and he is more comfortable on it. this year nadal wants to go into the artois championships, which he has never done before. he could win, but last yer even though djookovic was tired, he took a set and a half of him. if  djoker wasnt tired, he would have won. djokovic is comfortable on grass. grass isnt clay, and i think it will be a djokovic federer final in which federer will triumph in 4 sets

In the mens I'd say a Nadal/ Federer final. Nadal is in form and just crushed Federer - but that was on clay. The question is will Federer come into form for Wimbledon on his favourite surface. Djokovic is in with an outside chance and sorry to all the americans when I say that I dont think Roddick and Blake will make the final. The winner will depend on weather Federer finds form. If he does he'll win, if he doesn't Nadal will win.

The womens is slightly more complicated. Venus, Sharapova or Ivanovic could take it. Again Sharapova was out of form at Roland Garros while Ivanovic took it out. My pick is Ivanovic.

I think that Rafa has an excellent chance of winning Wimbledon this year. Federer also has a chance, but he has gone past his peak. The final will definitely be Federer vs. Nadal.
