Wimbledon 2010; After grabbing the victory, the excited Rafa grips on it

For an elongated span Rafael Nadal, grasped to his tournament keet pace. He continued it, held it, and even gave autographs with it enclosed in his right arm. It resulted in tears rolling down from his eyes.

He grabbed it on Sunday with a violent hammering of Tomas Berdych, a single sided battle ratified by the final calculation 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Victory domed Nadal into scarce company — his eighth Grand Slam singles title equalized the record of Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl as well as Andre Agassi and he flipped across the grass court in excitement.

“Holding this trophy in my hands is simply more than just another title”, he said.

Wimbledon’s final this season did not feature the tennis master Roger Federer for the first time after a period of seven years. If that looked kooky, though, Rafa’s victory for a fact did not.

Once again, he had accomplished a deed among the toughest in tennis, triumphing in the French Open as well as the grass court tournament in the same season, on the second occasion in the last three seasons.

Nadal smashed ground strokes, emitted and warped, his face into all the usual crookedness. He looked normal, just the difference was in his style of play which was more deplorable, more destructive, probably an advanced version of the player who triumphed in this championship back in 2008.

Last season, Rafa due to his injury watched Federer versus Andy Roddick final from his residence in Spain where as this season; the Spaniard regained the title and strengthens his position as the best tennis player from the men’s side.  After the post match presentation, Nadal went into a broadcast centre room and had a pizza. He looked calm as if the two hours since his success had eased him.

As far as Nadal’s performance is concerned, he has exhibited a lot of flexibility in his game over the years. Once satisfied with an approach of erosion, playing away from the baseline area and knocking down the challengers with his ground strokes, he now stepped forward and assaulted persistently.

Nadal hammered Tomas at 4-3 and won the first set with strong serves and mortal backhands. By then, success appeared certain. (Nadal now enjoys a 100-1 record when triumphing in the first set at a Grand Slam Championship.)

“Strategically, Nadal played an ideal set,” McEnroe said.

“He was extremely powerful today,” Tomas said. “He’s proving in the past few games that he is an absolute champion”.

Even then, Berdych became the first tennis player from Czech Republic to reach the Wimbledon final after a period of twenty three years. Along the way, he hammered down the top seeded Roger Federer as well as Novak Djokovic.

Nadal has performed extremely well over the last few weeks, enjoying a 31-1 record since May as compared to Djokovic and Federer who are gone to second and third in the world respectively.

After his last point versus Tomas, Nadal pulled down his knees on the grass court in excitement. In an interview after the victory, he told the reporters that he will not take part in the Davis Cup due to his right knee injury and will rest till the early August.

Nadal pinpointed his prompt priorities as “beach, golf, party, buddies, fishing as well as Mallorca.” But ultimately, he will get back to the training courts for the upcoming US Open, which starts from 30th August and is one of the major championships he has never triumphed.

Every single place Nadal visited after that Sunday’s victory, he carried that golden trophy, his recent best buddy and seems like the number one player in the world is enjoying the victory to the fullest.
