Wimbledon 2010 : Andy Murray the only hope left for the British Queen
The 25 year old Andy Murray is the only dedicated player left to perform in front of the Queen after the British sports faced another straight imperial blow at Wimbledon, the previous day. The very first emergence of the Queen Elizabeth -11 is time-tabled tomorrow at the All England Club in Wimbledon. The rest of the three British players were knocked out yesterday setting up a poor performance record in the history of Wimbledon. The Brits over the past three to four years did manage to triumph in the round 1 of the tournament.
However, this season has the lowest ever British participation ever since the start of the tournament which is a sad state for the tennis scene in British. Hence after Murray’s direct set win against Jan Hajek, he does not find many chances on the skyline.
Murray while commenting on the overall scenario said that it is an unhealthy sign which should be taken seriously otherwise the British tennis will be ruined. He wants to see more and more players contesting from the British side and winning matches for them.
Hardly any girl had an opportunity to triumph which was also not availed in the right manner. Similarly, it was only Andy Murray along with Jamie Baker from the men’s side which is not a good start beyond any doubt.
Murray is not sure of the level of developments going on with respect to the game of tennis in British. However, as far as the performances in the major as well as the small tournaments are concerned the outcome has not been satisfactory so far.
However, the semi finalist of the previous season looks to flourish this year as well in spite of the fact that her fellow players have failed to handle the pressure of Wimbledon.
Andy Murray since making his way into the final of the Australian Open did well to beat journeyman Hajek in a 7-5 6-1 6-2 match set. The 23 years old Scottish has not contested in a lot of games this year and so he counts every victory a great one. Although the beginning of the match was a bit knotty but after some time, Murray looked comfortable on the court, playing his natural game. Murray is likely to carry on with his form for the rest of the tournament as well.
However, the amount of pressure would not be the same for all the matches of the tournament. With a good victory, the pressure on Murray has in fact increased to play even better however it is expected to influence him in a positive manner.
What is important while playing on the court is to just concentrate on the ongoing match while not letting other distractions to affect one’s style of play, Murray added. A professional player never gets out of focus irrespective of the stadium’s vastness or the crowd’s figure. And Murray is one of those players who have successfully done it over the years.
Murray in his next match will meet Jarkko Nieminen after Finn defeated Stefan Koubek in a 6-4 7-6 7-5 6-2 match set. Nieminen while commenting on the Queen’s appearance in their match said that playing in front of the Queen even increases the urge of winning the match.
Another Wild Card entry Baker was knocked out by the German player Andreas Beck in a 7-6 6-3 6-4 match set.
As far as the quality of game of the British players is concerned, there is no doubt about the fact that there are players who are capable of winning their matches in the first round of the tournament. Probably, the pressure of the home crowd combined with irresponsible attitudes has messed everything up for the British players.
