The 26 years old Yen did not manage to pass through the first round at the grass court Grand Slam Tournament for the last four times and also remained unsuccessful in winning a single game during his previous five Grand Slam Events.
Yen-hsun Lu is now the first ever Asian player from the men’s side who made his way into the quarter finals of a Grand Slam tournament since the Japanese player Shuzo Matsuoka who reached into the quarter finals at Wimbledon back in 1995.
Lu ended up the match with a total of 22 aces while Roddick on the other hand had as much as 38 aces but turned just a single out of his eight break point opportunities.

Lu’s victory somehow outshined the performances of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic as well as Andy Murray among the men and Kim Clijsters as well as William’s sisters from the women’s side.
Prior to Monday, the player from Taiwan was 9-18 in Grand Slam clashes, where as 11-17 on grass courts and generally 2-10 versus the top ten listed players in the world rankings. Hence, this victory came as his first one after a period of about two years when he defeated Andy Murray in the first round at Olympics in Beijing.
Roddick, on the other hand has been knocked out by the tennis master Roger Federer at Wimbledon’s final including their last year’s dramatic encounter that stretched to 16-14 in the fifth set of the match. The American tennis ace has also defeated Lu in the last three clashes.
Roddick levelled Monday's clash with his 126 mph ace at the last moment of the tie breaker of set number four, and had an opportunity for a conclusive break in the fifth set. However, Lu battled with an ideal backhand volley at 4-4, and as a result held the serve.
The American player after the match said that he played terribly during the first three sets of the match. The only set where Roddick looked comfortable was the fifth one. On the other hand, Lu commented on his performance by saying that he never thought that he could actually win against the American ace.
Lu dedicated his victory against Roddick to his deceased father who was a chicken farmer and passed away back in 2000.
Apart from Lu, a couple of other Wimbledon characters also succeeded in their respective clashes on Monday including the top seeded Serena Williams who defeated Maria Sharapova in a 7-6 (9), 6-4 match set, Kim Clijsters who knocked down Justine Henin in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 match encounter, the big man Roger Federer, the world number one Rafa, Djokovic, Andy Murray as well as the William’s sisters, meaning by that there is still a lot of excitement coming ahead for the rest of the tournament.
